What Is A Microchip?

A microchip is a tiny device, about the size of a grain of rice (12mm), that goes beneath your pet's skin usually between their shoulder blades. This device has a unique code that is specific to your pet upon implantation. The procedure is similar to administering a vaccine, there is no anesthesia required for implantation. 

Why Are Microchips Important?

Your human ID is a critical aspect of your life, and it is the same for your pets! According to the American Humane Association, around 10 million dogs and cats are lost or stolen in the United States per year. One in three pets will become lost at some point in their life, but a microchip can save them. Microchips have no internal energy source, therefore they last the lifetime of your pet. When your pet has a microchip implanted, you must register your contact information through the microchip company that was used to their unique ID. Then, if your pet ever becomes lost, a veterinarian, shelter, humane society, etc. can use a microchip scanner to acquire their unique code and your information. Keep in mind, if you do not register your contact information through the microchip company that was used with your pet, it will be almost impossible to contact you if your pet is lost!
